A town hub
Koontz Annex, located on the right-hand side of the historic Riverview building, serves as a central gathering place for the Clendenin community.
A beautiful gymnasium, amazing space to rent for events, and our branch library - Koontz Annex is alive with activity.
It's a stone's throw from the Elk River, the Elk River Trail, and downtown Clendenin.
Koontz Annex, located on the right-hand side of the historic Riverview building. This wing honors the legacy of the Koontz family, who originally deeded the property to the county school board for educational purposes. When the property was no longer in use as a school, it reverted to the Koontz family heirs, who generously donated it to 25045 - ANC to preserve its role as a community asset.

Koontz Annex in Action
The annex was added to the main Riverview building to create a flexible multipurpose use space for the community. From the gymnasium to the library to the business complex, Koontz Annex is a hive of activity.
If the walls could talk, you could hear the chants of the cheerleaders’, the roar of the Elk River fans, and the swish of the basketball from the home teams of Big Sandy and Clendenin High Schools, and Clendenin Junior and Clendenin Middle Schools.
The Koontz Gymnasium still provides an auxiliary gym for the Elk River community. The floor has been completely refinished and the old Herbert Hoover High School basketball scoreboard that was rescued from The Flood of 2016 hangs proudly in the Koontz Gym today.
Koontz Gymnasium is a versatile venue equipped with restrooms, concessions, and seating for up to 250 guests. It hosts a wide range of large events, from sports and expos to festivals, weddings, and community gatherings.
The Muskie Expo is a fan-favorite event that takes place every February. People travel from all corners of the country to check out the latest in gear, trends, and supplies - and to see each other and have a great time!
From ballet to expositions to local sports, the Koontz Gymnasium also serves as the area's anchor for cultural events and art exhibits. It is the largest gathering space in town, and we are utilizing it in a way that celebrates the area's arts.
